In December 2019, Chartwell Marine was commissioned to develop the preliminary design for a 13m aluminium catamaran sports fishing vessel. This fast, efficient vessel was tailored to meet the demands of sport fishing enthusiasts, combining performance, durability, and customized features to create a versatile and capable craft. The design balances speed, stability, and operational efficiency, delivering a vessel ready for the rigors of offshore fishing while remaining adaptable for future client requirements.
The hull form of the 13m fast fishing catamaran was a critical design focus, as it needed to ensure both high-speed performance and excellent stability for offshore conditions. Chartwell Marine utilized advanced 3D design techniques to create a hull shape that would enhance the vessel’s speed and agility, while ensuring stability and seakeeping in various sea states. To further validate the design, the vessel underwent tank testing, which provided crucial data on its hydrodynamic performance. This testing allowed us to optimize the hull shape to ensure maximum efficiency, reducing drag while maintaining stability and speed in challenging conditions.
As per the client’s request, a flybridge console was incorporated into the design, adding both style and functionality, and offering a commanding vantage point for navigation and fishing.
Designed with the needs of serious anglers in mind, the catamaran incorporates a range of custom tankage and storage options, providing versatility and space optimization. The vessel features multiple bait and storage tanks, including a 200 US gallon aft pedestal tank, 500 US gallon port and starboard hull tanks, and 420 US gallon forward hull tanks. These options allow for ample storage of bait, catch, and gear, ensuring that the vessel is fully equipped for extended fishing trips. With a focus on client collaboration, the final tank configurations will be adjusted based on specific operational needs, ensuring the vessel is optimized for its intended use.
Through careful structural engineering, preliminary tankage and engine selection, and tank testing, Chartwell Marine has ensured that the 13m catamaran will deliver high-speed performance without sacrificing safety or comfort. The design includes a speed prediction analysis, ensuring the vessel can operate efficiently even at high speeds, making it ideal for reaching remote fishing locations quickly. The lightweight yet robust aluminium construction further enhances fuel efficiency and range, making it a reliable option for offshore sport fishing enthusiasts.
