Hampshire, 14th April 2022 — Archipelago Expedition Yachts (Archipelago), a high-class leisure-boat builder is excited to launch its flagship Archipelago 47 motor catamaran with Naval Architect Chartwell Marine, the cross-industry pioneer of next-generation vessel design.
Conceived as an “explorer’s catamaran”, the 47-foot vessel answers the call within the market for luxury, yet ocean-capable, multihulls; a combination so far typically dominated by monohulls. The Archipelago is designed to deliver distance, with long-range passage making in mind; optimised fuel-efficiency through its hull design; whilst balancing the desire for speed, performance, and accessibility for less abled yachters.
Blending the sea-keeping prowess of a high-power multihull commercial craft with an exciting new design embodying a spacious, family-friendly luxury yacht, the Archipelago 47 sets the bar. Its sustainable aluminium double-hull form allows for more stable seafaring, providing both a smoother ride as well as comfortable and extra living space. Sustainability and accessibility are at the heart of Archipelago’s philosophy – with hybrid and customisable options available – delivering more environmentally-friendly adventuring for future owners.
Dr Stephen Weatherley, Founder and Managing Director of Archipelago, has a lifelong history in boating and a passion to create more opportunity from the next-generation of luxury yachts. With construction now well underway, Stephen will be presenting the Archipelago 47 at the International Multi-Hull Show in the South of France on 20-24th April. The vessel itself will be unveiled at the Southampton International Boat Show later this year, with 38-foot and 56-foot vessels in concept.
Stephen said: “For this project we wanted to strike a balance between stability, speed, comfort, and sustainability — and of course, with plenty of style. If you’re looking for a vessel that’s as good for short getaways as it is for long journeys, the Archipelago 47 is for you.”
Andy Page, Director and Naval Architect at Chartwell Marine, added: “When it comes to accelerating technical capability in line with sustainability in the maritime industry, cross-application of experience is key. Naval architecture expertise is not siloed within individual industries; the knowledge, tools and capabilities can be utilised all across the maritime sectors, taking learnings from one vessel class to elevate another.
“The performance features of our flagship Chartwell Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) design for offshore wind support offer key advantages to the Archipelago 47 in carving out its market position as the industry’s pioneering voyager-class luxury catamaran.”
